Focused Learning - Small Group Workshops...
A step up from our themed walks, these practical workshops are for smaller groups and focus on specific camera settings, modes and photographic techniques. They are for beginners, improvers & refreshers who want to find out about aperture/shutter/manual controls or further advance their photography knowledge.
Designed for owners of cameras with manual modes - Aperture Priority (A / Av), Shutter Priority (S / Tv), Manual (M) - if in doubt, please email to ask.
Group sizes are limited to 4 with a minimum of 2 bookings required for workshops to go ahead. As with our group walks, practical workshops are dependent on the weather. If a workshop is to be cancelled for any reason, no less than 24 hours notice will be provided by email (to your registered PayPal email address) and full refunds provided. Each session is 2-3 hours long.
If you book and need to cancel your place, I ask please for no less than 48 hours emailed notice, after this time, refunds are not available.
If a workshop is fully booked, please email to be added to the reserve list - workshops will repeat over the course of the photo tours season.

Apperture control workshop
Aperture is a setting that transforms a snapshot into a photograph. On this practical workshop, you'll learn how to control depth of field - we'll look at how adjusting aperture can create blurry backgrounds and completely sharp images. An opportunity to understand a vital component of photography and use it purposefully in your image making.
When: Sunday 9th August 2026 - 10:30am to 12:30pm
Where: Thornham Old Harbour - a beautiful location with coal barn, moorings, boats and lots of interesting things to photograph.
Meeting at: Thornham Village Hall Car Park - PE36 6LX
Please aim to arrive 15 minutes earlier than our start time, the old harbour is a short walk from the car park.
Booking fee: £45
You'll need:
- A camera with Aperture Priority Mode (labelled A or Av on your mode dial)
- Wide angle and/or telephoto lenses
- A tripod (we'll be shooting a mixture of handheld and with tripods)
- Remote shutter release (or a camera with a timed shutter)
- Snacks and drinks as required (Thornham Deli is close to our meeting point)
